Hi, I had two mobile lines while I was visiting Canada in June July and August 2023. I was told in person by 2 different koodo service reps on different days at the Koodo kiosk in Walmart that the way to cancel the service was to just stop paying the bills and the line would be cancelled. However, I see that even though I had left Canada and had not even had the SIM card in my phone, I continue to be billed monthly and the bill just keeps growing. I see that this will affect my credit rating.  I want to cancel my services with koodo because I am not even in Canada anymore (I haven’t been since the end of August).   I also want to deal with my accumulated bill so that my credit rating is not affected.  Can you help me with this? Thank you.

Did you open a prepaid or postpaid service.?

Only prepaid service can be cancelled by not paying. For postpaid service, you will have to contact Koodo directly And ask a rep to cancel.

if you are overseas, you can contact them via chatting through Facebook or X messaging. Links are below at the bottom of the forum

So, as a follow up, I contacted Koodo via Facebook, they responded in a few hours after each of my questions, so it was a bit tedious but I got the information I needed to proceed.  They said that my account is postpaid which does not get cancelled by stopping payment, the billing continues even though the SIM card is not being used.  Only prepaid is cancelled by stopping payment (Too bad that the two in-store reps at the kiosk in Walmart did not give me this same information).  They gave me a number to call a koodo payment specialist, which I did call from overseas.  The specialist herself was very pleasant and knowledgeable, listened to my story, then consulted with her superiors, who determined that I would have to pay the full accumulated outstanding balance of $387.54 to avoid future repercussions (credit rating, problems setting up phone lines for future visits).   The superiors showed no mercy, even though the SIM cards were not even installed in the phones for the 3 months the charges were accumulating.  They cancelled the account and took a visa payment over the phone.  The moral of this story-:if you are getting a line with Koodo while you are back in Canada be sure to figure out if your account is postpaid or prepaid, and if it is postpaid, contact KOODO on social media to cancel it as soon as you leave Canada or you will get a very nasty surprise.

Walmart reps arent Koodo reps.  They are employees of walmart and can sell services of many providers.  There are good and bad Walmart sales people.  But I would not trust Walmart with questions like these

Yup.  Live and learn.
