I received a text stating that Customer support has sent a payment via e transfer having encountered technical difficulties while crediting an overpayment...visit http://bit.ly/Gfh03h3g to accept transfer

That indeed is a spam message. You can forward the spam message to the shortcode 7726 (SPAM) so that they can start an investigation.
