Have to say so disappointed in Koodo, they charged me a roaming charge because they said i used voicemail when it was them who sent me the message and when i contacted them all they offered was a discount and not to remove the charge. Been a loyal customer to them for more than 15 and this is how I get treated...wow

Hi

Just to confirm one thing — did you actually dial in and listen to the voicemail while you were away, or did you only get the notification that a message was waiting?

That distinction is the whole issue here. Receiving an incoming text, or a "you have a voicemail" notification, never triggers a roaming charge. But if you dialed into your voicemail to listen to it, that counts as an outgoing call, and any usage beyond incoming texts triggers Easy Roam — which is likely why they treated the charge as valid and offered a credit rather than removing it.

As well, if you believe it's genuinely wrong (for example you never retrieved it), you can ask Koodo to review that specific charge directly from Self Serve: https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/ask-us-to-review-a-charge-on-your-bill

To keep it from happening again while travelling, turn off both cellular data and data roaming in your phone settings, and hold off on checking voicemail.

You should have used a landline to call your voicemail while abroad. This will help avoid the Easy Roam fee. https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/understanding-how-youll-be-charged-while-travelling

There is a list of voicemail access numbers available in the Community. You can call the specific one pertaining to your area code.

Why did Koodo leave you a voicemail?

Did you reach out to them first?
