Hi all,

After many happy years with Koodo, I now can’t reach a rep to discuss this or view my bill online. Maybe the service is down? In any case, during a 6 week trip to Europe, during which I specifically turned off my data roaming to avoid these charges, I now have a huge bill covering two billing periods.

Clearly this is an issue that has affected many people. I would like to resolve this issue with a rep. Any help to resolve these charges when I didn’t use my phone would be appreciated.

All the best.

Was cellular data was off also? You need both was off to avoid data usage while roaming. As well, I assumed you didn't send and text or received/made any calls?

Hi Dinh,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes,  my mobile data was also off. I also didn’t text or receive any calls.

I believe there was one day in June where I did use my data on easyroam.

You could try to follow this to find how you were charged while roaming

I guess there was some issue with either data or wifi calling

It’s possible, but I was charged for services I didn’t use. How can I resolve that? Thanks.

But have you followed the links to find out what Koodo said the roaming fee was from . If you know the reason of the charge, it would be much easier to dispute?

I haven’t been able to download my bills as the service seemed to be down. I have them now and will review. Thank you again.

Hi Dinh,

How are you?

I’ve reviewed my bills and I am not sure how to proceed. Even though I didn’t use my phone or data, as established above, my May and August bills show that I was charged for a minute each day I was in Europe. I should not have to pay for a service I didn’t use. How can I resolve this? I’ve been with Koodo for a very long time and I’ve never had an issue until now.

Did you go through the Article linked above?  Did you complete all the steps?  What step number did you stop at?

Hi Dennis,

Yes, I went through the article linked above, completed all steps to and stopped at Step 4.

And what did koodo charge you usage for?  How many minutes of talk, how many sent texts and how much data was used?

Did you see koodo note any data usage based on following the instructions in the article?  How about sent texts?

Was the roaming usage that koodo noted for everyday for 6 week trip?

The article is vague about how to proceed once a Koodo customer has followed all 4 steps and has their bill information. Yes, I read the notes too. I would like to get this resolved promptly. I’ve been with Koodo for nearly ten years and this is the first time I’ve had an issue while traveling.

I didn’t send any texts, make any calls, or use my data. My mobile data was off as was the roaming feature and the one that sends texts on data when no wifi is available. I did that to avoid these kinds of charges. So I’m not sure why I was charged for the following days. This is what Koodo charged me for:

May 10: charged ER/VC ROAM/VOY for 1:00 minute GERMANY = $16

May 10: charged MSG RTRVL TM GERMANY for 1:00 minute = -

May 16: charged ER/VC ROAM/VOY for 1:00 minute GERMANY = $16

May 16:  charged MSG RTRVL TM for 1:00 minute GERMANY = -

May 18: charged ER/VC ROAM/VOY for 1:00 minute GERMANY = $16

May 20: ER/VC ROAM/VOY for 1:00 minute CZECH & SL = $16

May 25: ER/VC ROAM/VOY for 1:00 minute ITALY = $16

May 26: ER/VC ROAM/VOY for 1:00 minute ITALY = $16

June 6: charged ER/VC ROAM/VOY for 1:00 minute GERMANY = $16

June 6: charged ER/VC ROAM/VOY for 1:00 minute GERMANY = $16

June 9: charged ER/VC ROAM/VOY for 1:00 minute GERMANY = $16

June 9:  charged MSG RTRVL TM GERMANY for 1:00 minute = -

June 13: charged ER/VC ROAM/VOY for 1:00 minute GERMANY = $16

I'll flag a rep to look into it. You may well have to remove the Sim card entirely while traveling.

Thank you, Goran. I appreciate the help and the advice.

Hello @KGKG

I investigated the days that the charges occur and found the following.

There was no international data usage within that period, turning off the mobile data and data roaming off was a great choice.

I will list the days of the charges and what triggered them while you traveled.

May 10 – Checked voice-mail

May 16 – Checked voice-mail

May 18 - Text messages sent

May 20 - Text messages sent

May 25 – Text messages sent

May 26 - Text messages sent

June 5 – Text messages sent

June 6 – Text messages sent

June 9 - Text messages sent + checking voicemail

June 13 – Text messages sent

We have a detailed help page that can help with information on how the Easy Roam works. There is also a great help page with details on how to check the usage.

Hi Darius,

Thank you.

Any text messages sent were done on wifi. While it may have triggered the Easy Roam service, my data and data roaming were turned off, as stipulated in the Easy Roam article. I shouldn’t have to pay for this when I did my due diligence as a longstanding customer.

While I appreciate that Koodo offers Easy Roam, but I didn’t ask for this service. When I go over my data limit for the month, I’m sent a text asking if I want to buy more. This is something that Koodo should consider for Easy Roam. Do you want the service today? Yes or no.

I would very much appreciate it if you could please adjust my bill. I will happily pay the days when I accessed my voicemail.

Easyroam can be triggered by an outgoing text or a call or data usage.if you managed to turn off data but still sent text you would have triggered easyroam https://www.koodomobile.com/en/easyroam

The shock free data text was something else. I wish Koodo had similar feature for roaming.

Anyway, as the charge has been indentified and it seems it wasn't an accident, I recommend you contact Koodo directly and ask a rep about it. If you are overseas, you can contact them via their Facebook/Twitter messaging. Links are at the bottom of the forum
