Anyone had luck with a goodwill request?

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting Koodo to do a goodwill adjustment for a late payment or collection.

Earlier this year I signed up for one of the student deals, but I misunderstood how the first bill worked. I switched to another provider thinking everything was taken care of, but I later found out I still owed money to Koodo. By the time I realized, it had already gone to collections.

As soon as I found out, I paid the balance in full, and the account is now at $0.

I'm pretty young and this was my first phone plan, so I honestly just didn't know how it all worked. Unfortunately, it's had a big impact on my credit score.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Were you able to get Koodo to make a goodwill adjustment, or is it pretty much impossible? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Unfortunately once it is placed on your credit report, and since it is indeed correct, it will not be retroactively removed

Hi Dennis. Surely something can be done about it. It is hurting my credit score really badly and it is staying in my record for 6 years. Is there a number I could call or someone I could speak to who would help me with that?

Sorry to hear about it. that's a stressful spot to be in.
Just so you know where things stand: Koodo reports your payment history to the credit bureaus as a fully automated process, so once a late payment or a collections entry has been reported, it's generally not something Koodo can reverse as a goodwill adjustment — even after the balance is paid in full. That part is really out of their hands.

The good part is your account is at $0 now. Since it went through a collection agency, I'd contact that agency directly to make sure they've updated the bureaus to show it as paid/settled — Koodo can't change the collections file for you, the agency has to. It's also worth pulling your own report from Equifax or TransUnion to confirm it now shows paid.

For a first plan with a smaller balance that's now cleared, the impact usually eases over time as you build up positive payment history, so it shouldn't follow you forever.

I would suggest you to contact the collection agency and ask them to provide a letter confirming that the debt has been paid in full. You can provide this proof to Equifax and TransUnion and it will be noted on your credit bureau report.
