My account has been canceled and is getting transferred to a collection agency. I tried to speak with koodo to ask this question but it is beyond difficult to get a hold of a rep. I just want to know if when my bill gets transferred to the collection agency will I be charged more or will it stay the same price??? I really hope it stays the same price.

Hi @Mordecri

If the account wasn’t referred to a collection agency yet, we recommend scheduling a call back with the virtual assist, as they will be able to look into it further.

If the accounts gets referred to a collection agency,  you would need to discuss the details with the Collection agency that the account is referred to.

What happens when you try to schedule a call back? Have you tried insisting on requesting the call back several times and you are not given the option to schedule one?

It depends on the laws of your province, but yes, interest can continue to accrue when with the collection agency.

Note that the amount to clear your debt with the collection agency is negotiable (can be less than the amount owed, but is under the complete discretion of the collection agency that has purchased the debt).

Would they add interest monthly or would it be a one time thing? Because of how high my bill is right now i wont be able to pay it off until 2-3 months and im panicking because if the interest is very high then i might have to file bankruptcy

If your payment is not received by the date indicated on your bill, a late payment charge will apply. Late payment charges are 2.91% per month (41.09% per year) on your total unpaid amount. For Quebec residents, late payment charges are 2% per month (26.82% per year).

You are always better off getting a line of credit (assuming you are able to) and paying the outstanding bill rather than paying interest to any business.
