Question

WiFi being turned off automatically on my phone

Galaxy S21 FE: WiFi is being automatically turned off very frequently. Only way it fixes itself is if I reset the phone and even then it only works sometimes. When it’s on, I can connect to my WiFi but it’ll stay on for about an hour before being switched off. I have gone to Apps > Special Access > WiFi control and turned off WifI access on all apps listed. I have reset the WifI settings in the reset tab under general management. I have gone into developer mode and turned on WiFi scan throttling and Tethering hardware acceleration.

Did this help you find an answer to your question?

When you go into your wifi are you able to access the advanced settings and check the turn on wifi automatically and the wifi control history settings ?

Yes, I had the turn on automatically switched off because on my phone, it’s “Turn WiFi on/off automatically” so I didn’t want it to automatically switch off. I now have it switched on since you pointed it out.

When you said your phone turned off automatically, was your phone having good cellular connection at that time? I wondered if the phone decided to switch to cellular and avoid bad wifi signal.

Hey I’m replying a bit late because it’s still an issue even with trying the other solution left by the other comment. Cellular connection is good all through… when the wifi turns off it doesn’t automatically turn on data, I have to manually turn data on. When I try to turn wifi on, it’ll just say “Turning on” indefinitely.

Have you tried turning off everything in the Wi-Fi Control settings?

The initial issue was wifi being turned off automatically (frequently).

But now you are saying when wifi is off, you have to manually intervene to re-enable data?

Most people leave both their wifi and data on all the time.  When wifi is in range it connects.  When it is out of range it obviously disconnects and cellular data takes over.  Is this your set up also?

I do not run that setup. My data is off when wifi is being used. One thing I should note is that the wifi only automatically turns off when my phone is off. For example, I’ll be using my phone with wifi for say 10 minutes, turn it off and do something for another 10 minutes, then go back on my phone and wifi mode is turned off and I have to use data. It feels like something is forcing it to turn off and restricting it from turning back on even though I have disabled all wifi control through my apps.

I am confused by your description. How much data do you have in your plan. I would just keep both cellular data and WiFi on while using wifi calling.

When you said you turn it off, did you actually turn off the power or just turn off the screen? At that time was the cellular signal good? If it was good, the phone would automatically switch to Cellular.

What setting did you use to do this?  Did you accomplish this via the Wifi Assist / Wifi Intelligence settings?  Developer Mode menu setting?  I have an older phone and I enable data to be on always within the developer mode setting.

Within network settings go into your wifi networks and enable Auto-Connect.

Another option might be a battery or power saving setting that is turning off your wifi
