Transferred number but unknown number

I transferred my number using the self service.

It shows up as the new number on the account and i received confirmation that transferred has been successful (18 hrs ago).

However when i call or received calls, it shows a completely different unknown number (different from the original Koodo number and different from the transferred number).

I rebooted the phone. no change.

Any idea why? Thanks

Ah I see. Yes if the sim card number that is currently assigned to your phone number does not match the sim card you have then that is correct. The physical sim card you have has another number assigned to it. Yours is assigned to a different sim to the one you have.

Does the number for the sim card match any of the others you added to the account? Did you order esim for any of these or just physical sim?

To fix your current issue regarding your number you just simply need a sim replacement. This would assign your number to the new sim and then you can start using the new one. If you ordered esim for your line, then you can find your esim information in a confirmation email.

Hi there,

can you attempt to reset your network settings and see if that fixes the issue? If you’re unsure how to do it we can walk you through the process, we would just need to know if it is android or apple.

Have you attempted the sim in another device if it is a physical sim and see if the problem follows? And is it just calling or has it shown up with texting too?

Did you try to take out the SIM card and insert it back into your phone?

I have tried to use the SIM card in a different phone : the same odd number (581 xxx xxxx) is showing up.

I have tried to take the SIM card out and back. no change.

Tried to reboot . no change.

My Koodo account still shows the correct transferred number.

not sure how to reset  network settings. but it seems to be linked with the SIM card since the same problem shows in a different phone. (both phones being Apple if it makes a difference).

Resetting the network settings resets your connections to the towers and establishes new ones. How this helps is if there is a number change, when the device re-establishes the connections to the towers it will check for an update on the number assigned to the sim card, thus changing the number.

Before I walk you through it though, I don’t believe I see it in your previous posts but to confirm when you had the temporary number assigned to the sim card before the number transfer, was the temp number showing when you made a call? or has it always been this other number? Jsut trying to make sure the sim card is actually assigned to your account and is not assigned to a different one altogether.

You may need to insert another SIM card and manually put in your number.

I cannot manually change my number. won’t save it.

I don’t believe the temporary number from the SIM card ever showed up.

But i can’t be sure 100%.

The first time i checked it was the odd number.

Interesting. My main thought there is if the sim is even assigned to the account or for some reason if it is assigned elsewhere. These mistakes can happen.

Do you have an email agreement of the service? As on the front page it should have the temporary phone number assigned to the account and underneath that it should list the sim card serial number associated with it.

If you pop out the sim card from the phone and check the last 4 digits of the serial number printed on the front to what is in the agreement, that will give you this answer. If they match, then you’re good, if they don’t, well then a simple sim card swap would solve your problem.

the agreement does not show the SIM card number. i

it only says : SIM #: KTRISIM

and the original phone number

You can check the assigned sim then in your self serve. You can do this by doing the following:

Manage services -> get help with sim cards and esims -> update my replacement sim card on my account and select next.

This should then state the current sim card that is assigned to the phone number on the account. If the one you have does not match, then it is not the correct sim card. It would be worth eliminating this possibility.

just checked on self serve.

the last 3 digits of the current SIN number shown on self serve DO NOT MATCH the last 3 numbers of the physical SIM card i received,

and by the way. I signed up for 4 numbers to be transferred at the same time a week ago.

i have only received one SIM card so far.

maybe that explains the issue. just a wrong courrier.

indeed!

the SIM is assigned to one of the other individuals…..

never thought of checking since the envelop was addressed to me…..

can i repeat the transfer sequence with this other number or is too late?

as for me i guess i can wait until i receive the other sim cards.

Edit: Thats ok these thing happen! Yup you're correct in that you can transfer another number to that line, just not yours as it is too late. Your number was already transferred to another line, this cant be switched in self serve.

Regarding yours, since your number transferred over you will lose service on your previous providers sim card. You can either wait for the physical one to come in that now has your number, but you will be without service until it arrives in the mail.

Alternatively you can pickup a new sim from a koodo or telus store and perform sim swap and be good to go. To do this after you aquire a new sim from the store, you can follow the steps in the link. Up to you. 🙂👍

thanks.

i think i am going to do nothing for now, wait until i receive the remaining 3 physical SIM cards and then go to a shop to get this swap done there.

Sounds like a plan, just note though until the sim card shows up with your number on it you will be without service. So just be mindful of that if you're ok to wait.

Glad we got to the bottom of this 😎 best of luck! 🙂

Out of curiosity, are the plans the same for all 4 lines? Could you just use that sim for the assigned number?

the sims are assigned to each individual and their existing number in the contract and on self serve

last update: remaining 3 SIM cards received.

Each sim reassigned to the correct user.

All good. thanks to all for your help.
