I recently financed a Moto G phone as a new line on my account for my son, and it came with an eSIM. He decided to use a different unlocked phone, so I purchased a physical SIM card from Koodo. Now, I put the SIM card number on my account to change the SIM, but it won't work when I put the SIM card in his phone. I don't understand the process and would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

That errro code typically means your device is locked to another carrier.

Have you checked if the "unlocked phone" actually unlocked and can work with any Carrier? And which phone model was it? Is it from Canada?

The information on how to switch SIM is here https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/koodo-sim-support

Was there any particular error when you tried to switch?

When you made the sim card change in self serve, did it go through fully? You would have received an email notification indicating that the sim was successfully changed. Did you receive this?

If everything seemed to go through smoothly, can you double check the sim is showing as the one being used in self serve

You can do this by following the sim change steps for his line, select “update replacement sim on my account” and stopping there. It will show you the last 4 digits of the current sim and you can compare these to the numbers on the physical card.
