Question

Setting up cellular

My new iPhone 16 plus had a defect and had to be replaced.  I received my replacement today and after following all the steps Apple provided I erased my defective phone and returned it.  Now I’m going through setting up my replacement but my cellular is not working. It seems my phone number didn’t transfer to this phone and the old phone is already gone.  Koodo says I can schedule a call back, however if my phone number is not working than how can I get assistance??

Did this help you find an answer to your question?

Hi there,

Did you use an ESIM or a physical sim in the old defective device? If a physical sim, did you take it out of the old phone before sending it away? If an ESIM, did you follow the phone setup correctly to transfer the ESIM?

Well, I thought I followed the instructions but I’m not so sure now. It is an ESIM though not a physical card.

Hmm, if it was an esim are you only showing SOS when attempting to connect to the koodo network? As if that is the case it prob did not transfer correctly.

I guess not.  Not sure what to do.  Koodo only seems to offer a callback service which obviously I can’t get calls so I have no working phone.

So the fix is actually super simple. You have to just go to a koodo kiosk or corporate telus store, purchase an esim voucher (usually $10 to $20) and follow the steps in the link below to change the sim associated with your phone number.

Once you do, you can scan the esim and add it to the device. After that, the new esim will be active with your phone number and you should be good to go. 🙂

Or you can also get a physical sim is you want to use that instead of an esim

It’s for this reason I’m hesitant to go esim with Koodo. If you cannot successfully transfer, you have to purchase a new voucher for $10-20. I’m eagerly awaiting the day that this is no longer required by Koodo.
