RCS Messaging Not Activated

Hey, I recently moved to a different province and changed my number to one with the area code of where I currently live. Since getting the new number, I’ve noticed that RCS messaging isn’t working anymore—it just says ‘Waiting for activation.’ Can anyone help?

Hi @vonn this can happen after a phone number change. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
1) Turn off RCS. Clear your Messaging app cache and data then restart and test.
2) Use the Google RCS site to deactivate it for your old phone number:
https://messages.google.com/disable-chat
3) You can also try to turn off RCS for more than 24 hours and the turn it back on and test.

Let us know if it works!

In 1) would “Clear your Messaging app cache and data then restart and test.” delete my chats?

also i can’t do 2) because it says on that page that they’ll send a verification code if that number is registered with a google account but i’ve already updated my account with my new number

It would not delete your chats. They are stored separately to the app.
