Porting Number from Different Province

Hi all!

Looking to have some clarification on this as I’ve had issues with other service providers in the past. I would like to bring two phones to koodo that both have NS (902) numbers. We currently live in Quebec and would like to keep these numbers. Will we be able to port our numbers to koodo even though they have area codes different from the province we live in? We have received varying answers from other telecoms and have been blocked from doing so in the past. Hoping that koodo doesn’t have any issues with it.

Thanks!

Hi there,

Edit: no you should not have issues bringing over your NS numbers to koodo.

In my experience I have only had it where numbers could not port over due to a port lock on the number from the provider which were ontario numbers from Rogers. Never had any issues bringing over NS or other 902 numbers. You can port numbers over from other provinces even if you're not in that province. 🙂

Hi!

I actually don’t have service with Koodo yet. I’m asking this question preemptively to see if people have had experience transferring their service while keeping an out-of-province number. I recently tried switching service to Rogers and they could not/would not allow me to keep my NS number while living in Quebec.

In the past there were restrictions due to Quebec getting superior plans and customers trying to change their number afterwards to another province.

This doesnt happen as often today.  If you are worried, you can sign up with a NS number and then porting your NS number would not have any of those porting issues you are worried about.

I ported a Ontario number to Koodo from Telus  about a year ago with no issues while living in Manitoba.

Follow Dennis's instructions to get a Koodo account and then port your number.  If there are issues, I believe you have 15 days to cancel your Koodo account.
