I find that one I'm in a remote area I lose my LTE service, which is as expected, but then my phone goes back to full bars at HSPA however there is no data coming or going.
In these scenarios is there a setting that needs to be changed?

+4Firstly, try to restart your phone. Sometimes it help to recover the settings.
Also, if you can’t use data, can you check your APN and see if it was set correctly as per this https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/setting-data-your-non-koodo-phone
