(Currently using the Xiaomi Pocophone F1)
After switching from Fido to Koodo, I am unable to open most of my apps such as BMO app, chrome, bacon reader, twitter, my phone updater and most other game apps when using data.
However apps such as youtube, gmail and instagram works fine.
I have checked all my data settings and found that it is indeed turned on and turned off by mistake. I have even done a full wipe and factory reset on my phone. Tried removing and reinserting the SIM card, which after doing so broke a few more apps altogether making it worse.
I have even reset and tried creating multiple access point and the various fixes for the APN and MMS ports and so forth.
My only solution was to download 1.1.1.1 App by cloudflare and after turning it on and “securing” my connection all my apps now works on data. But doing so slows down my data connection since I am going through a VPN. Everything also works fine without the VPN when using WiFi
I wholeheartedly believe that the issue is from Koodo and have no other idea on how to fix this issue.
Spent days trying to fix this problem now and would very much appreciate a fix for this.
Makes me regret switching phone providers unless I can have this issue solved :(
Looking at the network specs of your phone, it does support some 3G connectivity. The phone is missing band 2 (or 1900 MHz) though it has band 5 (or 850 MHz) for 3G and 4G. Band 4 (LTE AWS) is missing. Band 7 (or LTE-A, 2600 MHz) might work if you’re in an area that supports this band.

Looking at the band compatibility chart over on Fido, they’re almost identical to Koodo with the exception of 2G, which Fido recently phased out. Koodo has never operated a 2G network. You would have had the same issues on Fido as you’re having here with Koodo.
What frequency does a device need to be compatible with your network?
To summarize, this is a partial 3G phone, with minimal 4G and possibly LTE-A, if you can get it to work. This would explain the sporadic network connectivity you’re experiencing. I would look into getting a phone that is fully compatible with Koodo.
