As the title states, I cannot connect my PS Portal to my ps5 because my mobile hotspot is NAT type 3, i have a Samsung Galaxy S24. At home my PS Portal connects to my PS5 no problem over Wi-Fi, but once I try to connect through my mobile hotspot it won't connect as Playstation requires NAT Type 2 to do anything. I have tried using my fiancé's mobile hotspot who is using a Galaxy S22 also on koodo and it worked fine on hers, hers was NAT Type 2, her plan isnt a 5G plan though, only 4G/LTE. I have tried using my iPhone 13 with my Sim and it was NAT type 3 and wouldn't work. I have also tried an older Galaxy S8 with my Sim card and it was fine, connected no issues NAT type 2. So what gives? Is it the 5G? I am disappointed as I cannot use my Portal away from home. I travel alot in the summer for sports and that's the main reason I got the Portal. Now it feels like a waste!
Try her sim in your S24 and your sim in her S22 and see what happens. The issue should follow the phone and not the sim. So I think your NAT type is based on your phone’s configuration and not the network or your 5G plan
I did find the below on reddit
I have managed to change my nat type from type 3 to type 2 on ps4 whilst on mobile hotspot. To do this I did the following (android)
Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
I then added a new access point with same details as my network provider, EE which was
APN: everywhere
Username: eesecure
Password: secure
I left everything else as default, selected this access point, and this gave me nat type 2. Sorry this post is a bit late, but hopefully helps someone else. Happy gaming :)
I tried swapping Sims, her s22 then became NAT type 3 with my sim and my s24 became NAT type 2 with her Sim. I also tried the other solution suggested, unfortunately it didn't work either.
How does her sim compare with your iPhone 13 and s8?
The fact your sim works with the s8 is the confusing part
I haven't tried her sim in my iPhone or S8, it looks the same as mine though. I've had the same sim card pretty much since I had the S8 way back in the day lol so I'm assuming that's why it works in it
From my online searches I see most issues stand with the device's configuration and not with the carrier.
But your S22 and S24 sim swap suggests otherwise.
You may have better luck in the reddit or Sony playstation based forums.
