I have a small appartment - do I really need a router as well as the modem? I was with Fizz before and only had the one device, not two as I just received from Telus/Koodo.
(I'm asking because of the location of the electrical outlets in the room, and the difficulty of finding power bar with a long enough cord *and* enough outlets to accommodate all the devices. One less would be just ok !)
You only require the modem. You are allowed to use the router of your choice, if you wish to. But unfortunately it is a 2 piece equipment setup. You may well need to look into a solution with additional outlets.
Without the router you can only connect via Ethernet cable. The router provides the WiFi.
I have heard that some people can't get the service to work when using their own router with the modem but it's inconsistent.
