Hey,

 

I have a Samsung S21 ultra which is less than a year old.

The phone was submerged in 2inches of water for about 5 seconds and now does not work.

The phone is supposed to be waterproof up to 1.5m for 30 minutes but it clearly isn’t.

 

Is this covered under the 1 year koodo warranty?

The phone had “water resistant” rating, not “water proof” and manufacturer didn't provide warranty for water damage unfortunately. So you might have to bring in to a authorized repair and see how much you would have to pay for the repair.


Sorry to hear. There are a number of similar stories online. The rating of IP68 is somewhat contradictory in the sense that a phone cannot have a submersion rating when it is only water resistant. A submersion rating would be more akin to devices with an ATM or WR rating. Based on comments online, the S21 Ultra should only have an ingress protection (IP) rating of perhaps IP51 or even less.
