Process for broken/defective phone clarification

Hi there,

Just wanted to start the topic of conversation in regards to a newer iphone 16e that I got in April 2025. Today I noticed it went down the 10% battery. I went to go charge it, plugged it in and it looked like it was charging with the little lightening bolt. Very soon it went down to 5% then 2% and now won’t turn on or charge. I tried different charging cords, blocks, outlets, wireless charging but nothing. I contacted apple support and set up an appointment to bring it in to an apple store to have them assess and fix or get a replacement.

I was just wondering if anyone has had a similar issue and what the end result was. The phone is covered under the manufacturer warranty so apple support said there would be no cost if it is determined to be an issue with the phone due to it being faulty. I still owe koodo for the phone since I gave a down payment and pay on my tab once a month for it. Once its fixed or I get a replacement I would love to just send it back and just switch back to my old phone but don’t know if that would even be possible. I just wanted a new one but have had nothing but trouble with it. I already did technically switch back now since this new one died so I just swapped the sim card back.

Anyone else have a similar issue before?

This link gives more info:

you did the correct thing to get it fixed under warranty for an apple device.

It happens. Quality control is never 100%. Some people will get phones that have a malfunction during the warranty period.

Yes you will continue to pay the tab regardless of what happens. You are past the 15/30 day return period, so unfortunately you cannot return it to Koodo. If you really don’t like it, and won’t use it anymore, you can try to sell it used to recoup hopefully most of the money you are paying. Is there a reason you don’t like the phone at all?

I think it just wasn’t what I expected for an upgrade! Thank you so much for the response. It is very helpful. Once I get the issue resolved I’ll decide what I want to do.

Fair enough. If you had an older, but higher end phone, it might well seem like not what you were hoping for.
