Problem Setting Up eSIM on Samsung S20 FE

I purchased a new Samsung S25 through Koodo and received it. My SIM card from my Samsung S20 does not fit and cannot be used with my new phone. I contacted Samsung Tech Support and they said I needed a new SIM card. I want to change to an eSIM, but none of the directions I have found on this site work. In each case, the heading I’m supposed to click on never appears. I have had my new phone for over a month and am still unable to use it. Please send a link to directions that will work to convert my existing Koodo mobile phone to an eSIM.

You’re not supposed to need a smaller nano-sim. That is the standard size and there is no smaller sim card standard. If it doesn’t fit, that means either there was a bad tolerance in the S25 sim “drawer” and it won’t fit any nano sim card, or you’re accidentally fitting it backwards.

When you initially setup the S25, you should be able to transfer ytor service from your old S20FE with sim card in it, to your S25 as an e-sim:

Specifically the “ existing customer: setting up a new phone” Is this not an option? You might have to factory reset your S25 to get back to initial setup.

Unfortunately, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE does not support eSIM.

You should be able to insert your physical SIM card into the Samsung Galaxy S25 and then change it to an eSIM. https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/esim-on-samsung

My existing SIM card literally is too big to fit into my new S25. I called Samsung and they said they were aware of the issue and I need to order a new SIM card from Koodo. But I already have a nanoSIM card and it doesn’t fit. How is Koodo supposed to know I need a smaller nanoSIM card? I do not want anymore delays in setting up this new phone. I need to talk to Koodo Tech Support, but I don’t know how to reach them.

That is strange. Did you try to swap the SIM card slot and see if it might fit into the new device?

Yes, I tried swapping the entire SIM “drawer” and the old phone’s drawer is too big to fit into the S25.

I not trying to insert the “drawer” in backwards, and I realize I’m not supposed to need a smaller nano-sim. There is supposed to be only one size of nano-sim. But this is apparently a known issue as related to me by Samsung Tech Support when I called about my old nano-sim not fitting into my new phone. They instructed me to purchase a new sim card from Koodo, online. My concern was: is the new nano-sim not going to fit my new phone, either?

Unfortunately, none of the options under the link you sent is what I need. The closest is “How do I convert a physical SIM to an eSIM on the same phone?” but I need “How do I convert a physical SIM on one phone to an eSIM on a new phone?”

Thanks to all who are attempting to help. This seems a colossal failure from the Samsung Design Department, as well as evidence of Koodo Quality Assurance totally dropping the ball. This should not be happening. Standard sizes are standard for a reason.

Are you trying to insert you old nano sim into your new phone or inserting the old sim card tray into your new phone?

The nano sim should be the same size. But the sim tray would be very different since the S20 also includes a spot for the SD card.

Photos would help to show what doesn't fit.

I have the samsung the S20 and Note20

Bottom picture: Full slot is S20; nano-SIM sits down inside slot. Top pic: S25; nano-SIM sits on top of slot.

Just noticed in blown-up pics that the “drawer” for the S20 is much deeper than that of the S25. I don’t think it is possible for the nano-SIM to sit “down inside” the S25 slot like it does in the S20 slot. ,,,I very carefully tried to slide in the S25 drawer with the nano card sitting on top. At first, it wouldn’t go, but with a little persistence, it finally did and my new phone is working! YAY!!! Thanks, guys!

The option I referenced is specifically to transfer from one phone with a sim card to another into an esim. It states: “ Click on and follow this guide for a personalized step-by-step tutorial on how to transfer a SIM card/eSIM from a previous phone to an eSIM on a new phone:” This would be exactly what you’re trying to do.

I’m sure you’re not trying to insert the drawer or the sim card itself backwards, but those are the options of the sim card was fabricated wrong, or the end user is trying to put it in wrong. It really sounds like the samsung rep is misinformed to me because there is no different size that a new card could fix the issue of and as you saw, it does indeed work. It’s just a harder to insert design.
