I recently upgraded my phone to a pixel 7. It came in the mail with a new sim card. I thought there was some sort of process to follow where my new sim card supersedes the old one, but it looks like the new one just doesn’t work and I just transferred my old sim card to the new phone and it worked.

Is it okay if I just throw out the new sim card? Why would they send me an extra sim card? For the plastic size adapters?

It simplifies the logistics to have all phones come with sim cards than maintaining inventory with and without sim cards. I suppose something else could be figured out with manually adding a sim card if requested, but I guess it was determined that the simplification was worth it over any process of maintaining 2 separate versions or of whether or not to add a sim card.

You can throw it out or keep it just incase something happens to your current one. It can be useful to retain in case of loss or theft. Up to you.
