I got my son a sim card and he is using an old phone. I decided to just buy him a gig of data hoping he could use it to just text when he is out at the park etc… but koodo doesn’t seem to allow it. I tried what’s app and it doesn’t seem to work either. I just get repeated messages from koodo saying I do not have a texting plan.

No you cannot with a data only plan. You technically can but it is exorbitant per use rates.
Is this postpaid then? The 30dollar 1gb plan?

+4You mentioned that you tried WhatsApp and that doesn’t work either? Does the phone connect at all? apps should work if you have a data plan, so he can send messages using the internet.
