video calling with koodo help

I just switched over to Koodo and got a new Google pixel 7. I noticed the video calling button is greyed out and the settings for video calls on the pixel 7 are non existent. Is this something that Koodo does not support? I certainly was not notified of this when switching over if that's the case. I had to install meet to video call but I can't video call with anyone that doesn't already have it.

If this is a limitation of Koodo, can I upgrade to it as an add on or something? It's important for work emergencies.

Thanks.

What do you mean by video calling? I mean Koodo only provides actual calling by phone and data, like all carriers. So can you explain exactly where you see this feature on your phone?

Video calling is a pretty standard feature on phones. It's calling someone but with video.. like Skype but built into the phone. If you go to contacts, click on a name and there are options what to do with that contact... Call, message, video call, etc.

Right, but that doesn’t depend on Koodo. It is a feature of either Google, Skype, Whatsapp, etc.  So if it doesn’t work for you, make sure you activate at least one of those accounts and also enable WiFi and/or data (though that might eat up your allowance pretty quickly).

You should be able to use video calling on WiFi even without a cell plan.

But I'm not talking about any of those video calling apps, I'm talking about the one built into the phone... The same way sms messaging and voice calling is built into the phone. You don't need Skype etc to message someone in the same way you don't need it to video call someone. It's always been built into my phone and never needed any 3rd party software or apps until switching to Koodo. The option to do it is now greyed out for some reason. Other people who can video call others also cannot video call me anymore after I switched... Even though we did when I was on Rogers.

Doing some searching online it suggests that I should be able to do it depending on the carrier.

I see, thanks for that. In that case I'm afraid that I'm out of options since I haven't heard of such a carrier feature. I hope that someone else will be able to chime in here 🙂

Rogers in the past had an extra feature called "video calling" that worked ONLY between certain Rogers devices. As they were doing that in a compartmental way, the feature wasn't popular outside of Rogers.

As of now many people (from other wireless companies and Rogers) are either using Google Meet, Skype, WhatsApp, etc.to make video calls. Those apps provide much better compatibility and can reach a wider range of cellular users.

If you insisted on a specific feature of Rogers, you might have to go back to them. I am not even sure if their newer plan still have the feature or not by the way.
