I have the canada-us plan.
this is my first time going to the states with it. Is there anything special I have to do when using it once I pass the border? For example, in my phone settings do I have to turn my roaming on or keep it off?

You'd need to enable the roaming data in your phone settings in order for data to work while in the US. There should be nothing else you need to do.
