Hi, may I know if I can receive SMS or phone call while travelling outside Canada without turning on EasyRoam?

Hi there,

So if you answer a phone call, send a text, or use any data while travelling it will trigger easy roam. Easy roam may also be accidently triggered due to data leakage too which would happen where apps use data in the back ground etc. You can receive a text and not be charged easy roam but if you respond then you will be charged and this also goes for if the text you receive contains pictures that require data to view. Steps on how to prevent easy roam from triggering and what would cause it can be found in the link below 🙂👍

So, do I need to subscribe EasyRoam to just receive Canada SMS from overseas?

No, if you have pay-per-use roaming instead of Easy Roam then you can still receive Canada SMS for free when travelling just the same rules apply for what trigger the charges (receiving picture messages, videos, and responding to a text). 🙂

So, I should be able to receive phone call and SMS without turn on easyroam or anything, correct?

If you have the pay-per-use add on already then you're correct. This is usually included in all plans but you can always check through self serve under "manage plan and and ons" and if you don't see it you can add it there for free. I suggest you check out the link I sent as it has all the information you need and more on the specifics.

Thank you so much. 😄

@wincydemy To be extra clear while travelling outside Canada answering a phone call with or without Easy Roam will come with a charge.  Depending on your destination pay-per-use charges are listed here:

If you are heading to Europe we have Easy Roam packages that are of excellent value. For example for 14 days and for and a one time $50 you can use your phone anywhere in Europe (64 countries)  like you in Canada. No daily charges.

Thanks a lot Bernard and good to know. :)
