Question

Reached data limit. Now unsure what topup plan option I've taken.

Hello, I reached by data limit and received a text to say I have options to unpause, but it only says $5 but did not provide the amount.

I replied YES, which according to Koodo’s website, is to initiate the plan’s pay per use rate.

Can I switch to the 1GB for $29 instead? Can I do this somewhere on self-serve?

And as an alternative option, can I switch to unlimited data perk for the rest of my plan? Will unlimited data override the plan’s pay per use charge?

Thanks

I’ve gone and added the unlimited data perk to my account. I then received a text offering $20 for 5GB Fast Pass”.  Does this essentially mean I can add 5GB at regular speeds to my plan until the end of the billing cycle for $20 instead of the “1GB for $29” instead?

Hi there,

once updated you should be able to view how much data is available in self serve from the one you added though it may take an hour or so.

Regarding changing to the different data add-on, you should be able to add more data by sending a text. The details can be found in the link. You can always add more data by spending extra but to remove the other option can be done in self serve under “manage add-ons”. If you have already used some data on pay per use you will be charged accordingly.

If you’re able to select the unlimited data perk, changing perks don’t come into effect until your next billing cycle so this won’t help the situation unfortunately but will help in future.

You’re correct, that is what the Fast pass does. I would choose this as it is a better deal than the 1GB for $29. Again just note that the perk update will not come into effect until the next billing cycle for unlimited data.

Ok noted.

So then I’m currently on some sort of data top up option now. But it’s not clear which one. The Koodo website says texting “Yes” puts me on my plan’s pay-per-use plan. However, the text says “Yes” to unpause for $5. and doesn’t say how much data it is. Does this sound familiar to you?

And these specifics should eventually show up on my self-serve and I can sort it out there?

You’re correct in that initially responding Yes is to un-pause and use your plans pay-per-use rates. This isn’t an amount of data as you can use however much you want, however, it is a lot more expensive than the data add-ons.

I would give it a few mins to update to the data add-ons you have added. Once it has updated, it should be visible in self serve how much is available to use as opposed to using pay per use.

It will automatically switch to the add-on as opposed to the pay-per-use rate but yeah once it updates you should be able to track how much you have in self serve.

Thanks very much for replying.

Oddly, when I go to my usage section in my account (previously showing the circle with my available GB maxed out) I see it’s showing unlimited data at reduced speeds, and gives me the option to do the fast pass. It seems to be allowing it for the current billing cycle.

No problem! That is odd as usually it’s not until the next cycle. I’ll flag a rep to take a look as if that is the case there is no point in being charged the data add-ons.

If what you say is correct, then that’s awesome and you get reduced speed data and can use as much as you want until the next cycle. If you want the quicker stuff until the next cycle (5GB Fast Pass), you would then purchase the pass which will work first before the slow stuff.

No need to flag the rep but thank you anyway! I will just proceed with the way it is showing on my account. thanks very much.
