Prepaid: Booster usage not making sense

This is a follow-on to a question I asked earlier today but I don’t know how to link to it. In summary, earlier this morning, I had a single data booster on my account that was at 91% of usage so I bought another 3GB booster, not realizing that I’d lose the unused portion after 30 days. My previous question got me good answers on what was going on and I understand those answers, even if I’m not awfully happy with what they mean. But now something is happening that makes no sense: I went back into my account to change my plan to something that’s a better fit for me and found that 3% of my new booster has already been used - even though I’m at home and have only used the phone to play some games while I’m on WiFi - and the usage on my older booster is LESS than it was earlier today at only 89%.

Can someone possibly explain to me? Why would it start using a new booster when the old one still wasn’t exhausted and how did usage on the old one DECREASE??

It is actually a difficult question to answer since you were the only one who had access to the phone, and prepaid service support is limited in the forum.

Just wondering which phone model it was? Have you checked if your WiFi signal was consistent and if the phone had good reception? In some cases, the phone can use cell signal when WiFi is weak.

Regarding the usage report, there could be an issue with delayed reporting by their system. Usage of a few hours was bundled in one report. However, there could be other causes as well.

In terms of the question which booster is used first, From your description, it appeared the new one is being used first .

The phone is a Google Pixel 7. I did not keep my eye on the signal strength icons so I can’t say conclusively that it never went over to the cell signal but I don’t see why it would. I’m literally just a few feet above the WiFi; I’m just above it in the same corner of the house (the modem is in the basement and I am right above it on the main floor.)

Even if they have a policy of using the newest booster first rather than using up the previous one - which has not been my experience with previous boosters - I don’t understand why that would LOWER the usage on the older booster.

The only reason for the extra usage in old boosters that I could think of is the delay of reporting data usage in self-service. For example, my calling usage is currently delayed by more than 12 hours (I am a postpaid customer).

Anyway, you could schedule a call back from Koodo prepaid rep and ask them to check www.koodo.com/prepaidchat
