Is the only way to pay for a discounted plan (with auto pay) is through using your bank account?

I’m currently thinking of changing my plan (or leaving Koodo altogether) because of the recent price increase. Every time I look online or when I spoke to a representative, I’m told I can only get a discount via auto pay through my bank account. Is there a specific reason for this? I’m not comfortable doing auto pay through chequing and haven’t paid a bill through chequing in years now. I’ve been with Koodo for over a decade and it’s been frustrating to see how in order to get a better plan, I’m being pushed to use a method I don’t want to use.

Correct. It requires a pre-authorized payment to a bank account.

It’s not to get a better plan, but to get the $10 discount. You don’t have to take it, but this is Koodo’s way to not pay credit card transaction fees. That’s basically the reason. Plan’s cost the same as before naturally. The plans were alljust increased by $10 and then the discount brings you back to the previous pricing tiers.

Clik2pay appears to be an option, although I’m not 100% clear that it also qualifies for the PAP discount. It appears to work strictly with Canadian banks as a secure medium for online payments.

If you have auto pay by bank enabled, and you pay by credit card prior to when payment is taken (about 15 days before your next billing cycle) you can manually pay by credit card and still get the auto pay by bank discount
