Question

I have been scammed by Kudo's sales person - Promised $25 Plans, Charged over $45

I was misled by a Koodo salesperson who promised that my monthly charge would be around $28, but the first bill I received was over $45.

He told me that both my first bill and all future bills would be approximately $28, and they will start billing only after activating my SIM. But I received the first bill even before receiving the SIM.

This feels very deceptive, unlike my experiences with sales representatives at Rogers.

They don’t even have a customer care phone number that I can easily reach.

Stay away from this provider.

I want to cancel my service now and want to ensure to cancel the bill they sent even before activating the SIM, but there is no way to reach them.

I hope the salesperson is held accountable who just scammed me

Can you share the detail of the transaction? Where did you meet the sale person and what is the detail of the plan? Was there any condition for the discount?

He called me over the phone on 30th Jan at around 5:30 pm MDT, and he asked me to click on a link in an email. The following are the details in the email.

He mentioned that there is a special offer going on, that my bill will be around $28, and mentioned following details:

  1. 24 months credit to reduce from $50 to $27.50
  2. 60 g of data at 5G
  3. Name of plan: 5G 60 gigs with up to unlimited international calling and messages. Free roaming in India, USA and Mexico

  4. Bill will be 27.50 + taxes in billing on $50 plan because I was offered special discount

Please don't post your personal information in a public forum. Let me flag a rep to hide it.

There was indeed a promotion recently on that day.

Have you got access to your selfserve and Koodo SIM yet? As well, did you set up your pre-authorized payment with a bank account? (You would receive $10 credit for that)

If you have access to your selfy, go to bill area and download the PDF bill, check the page 3,4 of it. The first bill typically higher than normal one due to extra fee from a partial billing period

Even after the $10 credit, it does not bring the bill down to $28 as promised. I am already paying below $33 with Rogers. Please cancel my services and cancel the first bill also. I should never be paying for the service I never used and I explicitly asked the sales person to not start billing before I transfer my provider.

For cancellation , you will have to schedule a call back to a Canadian number of your choice. Go here www.koodo.com/chat and type “I want to cancel”

anyway, have you got a chance to look into the detail bill at all?

Yes, I looked at the bill and it is no way less than what I am current paying at Roger. Could you assist me in cancelling? I went to portal but the chat does not help. I have scheduled a call back yesterday but it does not seem to work

Unfortunately, for cancellation, you have to schedule a call back. It is a normal practice of Canadian carriers, including Rogers. You can’t schedule from a customer forum.

what error did you see when you try the digital assist? I assume you didn’t block Koodo number and had a confirmation by email/sms from them?

Hi @sarikasoni12

We understand the first bill may be confusing, however, as Dinh mentioned, the first bill is usually higher due to the first bill proration, more info can be found here

According to the service agreement, that can be downloaded in self serve, you  got the promotion that was available back then (25% discount on the plan for 24 months), we recommend downloading the service agreement in self serve for details.

If you enable pre-authorized bank payments, you will get $10 discount with your current plan, on top of the discount mentioned above. More about the autopay discount can be found here https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/auto-pay-discount

Please let us know if you require further assistance and we will do our best to help!

@sarikasoni12

Just to clarify, your monthly regular bill starting with the next bill will be $27.50 + tax (for the next 23 months), as long as you enable pre-authorized bank payments before the next bill. Only this first bill is higher, due to the proration.

If you decide to proceed with the cancellation, you can schedule a call back with the virtual assist

In item 3. above, he mentioned “Free roaming in India, USA and Mexico”. Is that a fact, if so, while not roaming in India, the USA and Mexico would be a real deal for less that $28.00

The deal is $27.5 (2 year only) for a 60Gb Canada-USA-Mexico plan if customer activated at a store (online pricing is little higher). It doesn't include India. It was probably just a typo from the OP. The promotion is similar to Public Mobile flashsale a week earlier($20)
