Hi I’m switching from one  producer to  kodoo  when I get my plan can they activate my new plan with an E SIM card or would o need a SIM card from store

You can activate via E-SIM, but you would need to purchase an E-SIM voucher from the store before. Defeats the whole purpose of an e-SIM I would say…

I think you might be mixed up Robert. This step is just to verify if the device is compatable with Koodo’s E-sim. This is new though as you’re right it was not an option before and you had to buy the voucher.

The 32-digit EID (E-sim ID) is the ID number for the built-in chip in the phone that the E-sim gets attached too. Even if it is E-sim compatible, if the phone is blacklisted it would fail the check. If you don’t have the E-ID number, it is not E-sim compatible, but yeh the purpose is just to see if it works / assign the E-sim to the EID. Kinda like an E-sim version of an IMEI.🙂

Yes, you can now activate and receive the service via an E-sim, atm it is a onetime fee of $15, or at least that is the case when I go through the purchasing process.

Thanks Oliver, I really thought it was only available in-store.  Apparently, it’s changed recently. Thank god as it rendered eSIM useless if you needed to go in-store.

Do you also know if you can generate eSIM online for free?

Yeah, I am glad they made the change as a lot of other providers have been doing it for a while 😅 I agree it’s been long since due.

So as far as I am aware they only now offer an eSIM recovery option for free. So, if you delete the sim, you can get it back which saves you buying a replacement.

Beyond that though if you were to look to convert from physical sim to eSIM but your device does not provide the “Convert to eSIM” option, then you still have to go and buy the voucher and perform the sim swap in self-serve. If it does have the option, you can convert for free.

When ordering postpaid online, you can choose the eSIM but it’s a $15 fee, sometimes though it goes for free. As far as I am aware, that’s about it for eSIM options for now. 😎
