Do Koodo plans support Personal Hotspot?

Hi Koodo Community,

I was wondering if Koodo Plans recently stopped offering Personal Hotspot? Up until a couple weeks ago I used my Hotspot nearly daily.

I recently swapped my physical SIM for an eSIM (I have an iPhone) and since i did that - Hotspot does not work. It connects via wifi or cable - give me an IP address - but websites cannot be resolved.

I visited a Telus store just now, and did another SIM replacement for a new eSIM - and I was then told by the rep in store that Koodo plans no longer support Personal Hotspot?

The rep then tried upselling to a Telus plan, but I want to confirm that Koodo plans do not support Personal Hotspot?

Edit: I’m getting a self-assigned 169.blah blah IP now. I’ve also reset my iPhone’s network settings - but this didn’t work.

Hi all,

Crisis averted here - I realized the issue was the way I had a VPN setup on my phone. I have a mobileconfig payload for a VPN installed on my iPhone.

Once I disabled a specific aspect of my VPN - boom - I could hotspot fine again.

Sometimes it’s not the provider - but you :P

As far as I know hot spotting still works for all Koodo plans.  Koodo does not care how you use or what you do with your data.

To clarify, are you trying to use your koodo esim and device as a hotspot to connect other devices to the internet?  Or are you trying to connect to another device’s hotspot?

I have 75 gb of data and my husband has a small prepaid plan. Numerous times over this past weekend I set up my Personal Hotspot for him to use my data. Plus we watched Netflix on the tv in our motorhome through my data. No issues at all.

Hmm. thanks for the replies!

I may have to do a full-phone reset in this case… I’m not super-keen on that - but I suppose that’s the next step given it should be allowing hotspot!

I’ll let everyone know what happens after a full reset!

APN settings are correct. On a phone re-boot it seems the APN settings reset to what they should be automatically.

I’ve got to prep for the full phone reset before I do it.

If you go back to your regular sim does hotspotting work again?

Hi all,

I’ve just completed a full reset of my iPhone via DFU mode and reinstalling the OS.

I had a new eSIM and added it as the cellular plan. No luck with the hostspot.

Same issue - it’s either a 169 address or a normal internal one at times - but no network connectivity.

I’m thinking I may swap back to a regular SIM and see if I get hotspotting back. This all seemed to come about after moving to an eSIM rather than a normal physical SIM.

The phone itself has data and works - but it’s just the hotspot that “works” as in it broadcasts the Wifi name and I can connect - but there’s no network connectivity.

Next thing to try… a new physical SIM...
