Question

Can I close my prepaid account and reopen as a new customer later to take advantage of newer and cheaper prepaid plans?

I am on a $250 prepaid plan for 360 days. This includes unlimited Canada-wide calling, unlimited texting, and 12 GB of 3G data for the whole year. As of 22 Mar 2026, Koodo is offering a $149 prepaid plan for 360 days. It features unlimited Canada-wide calling, unlimited texting, and 30GB of 4G data.

When I go to my online account, I have the choice of renewing at the same $250 price. When I click on “Change Plans”,  I only see more expensive monthly prepaid plans.

According to Mobile Master Oliver C, current cheaper plans are generally available only to new customers.

But what if I ask Koodo to totally close my account (including oline account) and wait a few days. Can I go online to Koodo’s public website and sign up for the cheaper $149 plan as a “new” customer?

What if I subscribe to another mobile company for a month after terminating my account with Koodo? Can I take advantage of the cheaper plan as a “new” customer after a month?

What if I go to a Koodo-owned store. Can I ask the agent there to change my plan to the cheaper one once my current subscription expires? If this is possible, are there any extra charges to do so?

Prepaid plan structure is different compared with postpaid offer. If you want to switch, you could schedule a call back and ask a prepaid rep. Hopefully they can help www.koodo.com/prepaidchat

By cheaper plans tending to be available for new customers, this is normally the case for postpaid. For prepaid, as it is a subscription service, what is available to you is normally what is currently in market.

If you do not see prepaid plans that are advertised on the koodo website in your self serve, then you can schedule a callback and have a rep change you to it. This is not the case with postpaid as the conditions can vary for plan eligibility.

The advertised plans also change all the time, so if there is not one you like the look of right now, a cheaper one may appear in the future.

I have noticed that when it comes to those on 360 day plans, not all plans tend to show in self serve to switch to and those not on them have the inverse problem and don’t see 360 day plans available. It may be due to a system error, but that has been the case for a long time with those plans.
