Better Deals For New Customers Than Loyal Customers

I have been a Koodo customer for about 17 years now (since their first 3 months in business in 2008). And I am disappointed to see that Koodo is offering a $40cad plan including US CA MX roaming with 60gb of 5G data but only to new customers as a big screw-you to existing customers.

Anyone have any other phone providers they recommend for CA US MX roaming with a service provider that would like to have me as a new customer since Koodo is making it clear they would not like to keep me as a customer?

Already spent about an hour on the line with a Wendy who was not helpful and told me that Koodo only cares to provide their best deals to new customers and advised me that I am not eligible for this plan or any of the boxing day sale plans which I find so disrespectful after so many years as Koodo customer. Koodo started off on their campaign of: “No contracts, no hidden fees, and the same great deals for everyone.”

Today they got rid of their tabs that would earn value when you’ve paid off your phone and just use tabs as a contract now and not like they were when they started.

They have lots of hidden fees now.

They boast about prioritizing new customers instead of loyal customers by providing them better deals.

And they used to have the best ratings in customer satisfaction. Today they get a 1.3 rating on Trust Pilot that basically makes them a suspected fraud site.

There is no need to be loyal - porting is easy and you may even get an awesome winback offer from Koodo. It’s what I did - none of the BF/Boxing Day offers come even close :)

Apparently Best Buy has a $35 offer with 100GB data with various providers… I think it’s still available but you’d have to hurry, those offers won’t last forever!

All carriers are having these offers and all carriers this time are sticking to the new activations only requirement. I’d imagine there’s people complaining of this across all carriers and they’re right to complain. Any talk of loyalty is kinda meaningless in this current envrionment. You’d have to port around to get these deals now. Costco and Walmart are also offering $100 gift cards. You can remain within the Telus umbrella if you wish by activating a new line with Telus and porting Koodo over. I’d do it so that you get a gift card. Otherwise, pick any carrier of your choice! It’s the same for them all now.

Have you checked your Self-Serve account first to see if the plan is available when you try to change your plan? https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/changing-your-rate-plan

If not, you can always port over to another service provider, but you should do it as soon as possible, since the special offers are only available for a limited time.

I did the same thing with Fido.  I called them up to see if they could offer me something or I was going to port out.  They were able to give me what I needed.

If you gave Koodo a chance, and they can not give you the offer you are looking for, then you did your best and gave Koodo more opportunities than others may have.  Both Fido and Virgin are offering equivalent plans to new customers.  Typically every year or 2 customers rotate providers around this time.
