Am I a new customer if I am currently with Telus

I am currently with Telus. I want to switch to one of the new Koodo promotion plans.  Can I just set it up and request a port and they will consider me a new client. When I contacted the Telus Reddit team a few months ago they said no I cannot qualify for Koodo plans for new customers.

But I read others have no problem.

Hi there,

Yes you can switch from Telus to Koodo and when you do, you can choose current new customer in market plans. 

With other providers, this would be known as an account migration and you would not be eligible for new customer promos. However, with Telus/Koodo it is treated the same as a new customer.

You will require a Koodo sim to do this, a Telus sim cannot be used for Koodo so a rep will just make a koodo account under a temp number and then port the Telus number once the sim arrives in the mail. You could also just do this by ordering the koodo service online and porting over when the sim arrives, saving the connection fee.
