Question

why is Telus health advertising weight loss drugs to koodo customers through promotional emails?

I woke up today to find an email from Telus health advertising their services to get access to weight loss drugs. I’m immensely frustrated and kinda disgusted that Koodo/telus health are able to push pharmaceutical products to their phone customers. I am not and have not ever had a direct account with Telus (I only access my phone bill through Koodo) so the fact that Telus health is trying to get me to pursue weight loss options is crazy. I have a history of body dysmorphia and anorexia. To be advertising health like this is disturbing when you have no idea what person will receive those emails. It feels like it’s preying upon vulnerable people to shill a product that is still being tested on.

I also thought that advertising for pharmaceutical products was strict under Canadian law so I’m surprised you are able to even do this. Gross.

I would suggest you to scroll down to the bottom of the email to unsubscribe.

Hey, as a Koodo mobile customer I do have some emails allowed as I like to view offers to try and save money. My concern is that I am not a direct customer with Telus or Telus health, they sent that email to Jodi phone customers and it has nothing to do with the phone offers I have agreed to receive. It feels incredibly unethical for this company to be shilling weight loss plans. Yes I could opt out of emails but I have unsubscribed several times and end up receiving emails anyways. It was gross to mass send An email like that and me unsubscribing from the emails does not change the fact that it feels predatory.

if it were a general promotion for Telus health than I wouldn’t have been so upset but to actively promote weight loss to people who you do not know their medical conditions is a problem and it’s WEIRD!

I do agree with you that it is an unprofessional email to Koodo customers, but it should also be noted that they are within their rights to send it out as well.

Let me know if you want me to flag a rep to send your feedback over to the appropriate team.

Sure, flag a rep. Nothing will change though, as you said “it was an unprofessional email”. but it’s within their right to send. Swell, these companies are all the same and it’s disgusting. They feel it’s their right to prey on their consumers. Sick! I thought that Canada had stricter regulations on promoting pharmaceuticals like that but I guess they found loop holes and vague enough language that it’s all fine! Pass along the message but who f-ing cares. They’re just trying to milk a few more cents from people and their private medical data <3

Telus has been aggressively expanding their portfolio to other sectors including private health care.

From your images, it doesnt look like they are advertising a specific medication, so they are within the law here.

Honestly, you can unsubscribe from Telus and you would still get Koodo emails.  But there is o promised that they wont send something similar from Koodo too.

If this really upsets you, then I suggest you speak with your wallet
