Question

Voice message keeps changing on its own

I have reset my standard voice message a number of times - a simple, recorded message. However, when leaving me a message people often get something completely different, and complicated, rather than the voice message I have recorded and set as my primary message. Any ideas as to what is going on here?

Which phone are you using ?and Are you using any “smart voicemail” feature on the phone like “live voicemail” by any chance?

I have an iPhone 12. And as far as I know I’m not using any smart voicemail features, unless they set themselves up. When I dial in to check what my main message should be, it plays the message I have recorded and (repeatedly) set as my main message.

Ok so your recorded messages is as it should be.  And you set it as your main greeting.

But what actually plays when you use another number to call your phone and try to leave a voicemail?

I don’t know as I haven’t heard it. And the only level of ‘detail’ callers give me is that it is an automated message that is long and confusing

I suggest first leaving yourself a voicemail and listening to the recording to get a better understanding of what we are dealing with here

Yeah, on some iPhone, the live voicemail can be turned on during update. Can you go into Settings >> Apps >> Phone >> live voicemail check if it is ON?
