Switching from Cogeco to Koodo Internet

I am currently using Cogeco but will be switching to Koodo Internet. Do I have to contact Cogeco to cancel before connecting the Koodo modem to the wall outlet that the Cogeco modem is currently active on? I would rather wait until I see how the Koodo service works before I cancel with Cogeco.

Hi @pthubbard

When signing up for Koodo internet, you are asked to confirm the provider that has been active at the address in the past 6 months. You should indeed contact Cogeco, but only after placing the Koodo internet order and before the Koodo internet activation date that you choose when signing up (ideally right before the Koodo internet becomes active)

Are they using the same coaxial port? If so, since Koodo internet is using the same port, you would have to notify Cogeco about the cancellation first before contacting Koodo. Otherwise, Koodo can't use the port during the activation.

Hmm. I have read elsewhere that the same port could be used for both services simultaneously. This would be ideal as I don’t want to cancel Cogeco until I know I’m satisfied with Koodo’s service.

My understanding is also that two services cannot simultaneously use the exact same line. Different lines to the same address, yes. I can flag a rep to see if they can confirm if you like

Yes, I would like a definitive answer. It will help me prepare for the transition. Thank you.

It’s generally standard practice for each ISP to require its own coaxial line. Sharing signal on the same line would create significant interference. I’m not sure where you read that sharing is possible. If you can, could you share the source?

I've flagged a rep but if koodo’s internet in your area is through cogeco, I'd especially expect it to not be possible. I still have never seen it but hopefully a Rep can confirm witnout you having to schedule a callback to do so. Support for internet remains limited on this forum

Thank you for your response. I wonder if it would make any difference if I only physically connected one service at a time. I can see how both connected to the same port at the same time would cause interference but perhaps if only one was connected at any given time, it could work? I guess I’ll find out because I already set the activation date for Koodo which overlaps with Cogeco by 15 days. I would rather not cancel Cogeco earlier because there would be a cancellation fee. Thanks again.

I'm still not even sure about that but if you intend to try please do let us know how it goes!
