seriously regret changing to koodo

ETA - wrong name in profile. Unable to change.

I switched to Koodo only because I needed a replacement Iphone and they had the best offer. I regret it so much. My service is so bad that 90% of the time I can’t make a call from my house and if I do, I can’t move once the call is connected. Service is bad everywhere as well. I looked at a tower map and I see that there are no 5G towers bear me and a scattered few LTE towers. I was with bell before and the remaining members of my household are still with bell. The coverage map shows more coverage with Bell. I wish I had checked this before switching. At this point I may just cancel my account and take the hit on the discount on the phone.  TBH it wasn’t a great deal but at the time it was the only deal around and my existing phone was not working so I couldn’t wait.

Hi @Matt Mladenovich

We are sorry to hear that the coverage is not reliable in your area!

Just to double check, have you checked the Koodo coverage map and the coverage is poor in your area?

Do you have wifi calling enabled on your phone whiie at home?

Bell and Telus shared towers. You should be able to use the Bell tower in that area though.

Since the port to Koodo have you tried to reset network settings of the phone?

To clarify the phone was never used on bell account. The phone was acquired at the time I signed up with Koodo.

I have now enabled wifi calling. Is this something I should turn on and off or just leave it on all the time

You should keep WiFi calling turned on. What it does is that when the service in your area is poor and you have a strong WiFi connection, the device will use the WiFi to make the call instead. This will make it that calling is a lot more consistent.

As Dinh was saying, where Telus towers are not available Koodo uses the Bell network so you should be able to connect to the towers in your area. Have you attempted to reset your network settings like they suggested? This should help clear the connection to the towers and improve your connectivity.

When did you sign up with Koodo and get your phone?  Are you within your return period?

Wifi calling may help you when you are at home or when you are in a wifi area, but if you are having issues, elsewhere in your area, I would strongly consider a network that works for you as it will be a continuous annoyance.  If your home is the only issue, then yes wifi calling is a reasonable solution.
