I live in a small valley where cell coverage is one bar at best. Wifi calling is my only option for reliable phone service while at home. Surrounding areas all have adequate coverage and this cellular desert problem applies to only about 11 houses. While wifi calling serves well under normal circumstances, during a power outage there is NO service. Is there a solution to this?.

I’ve been told that a modem connected to a UPS will not solve this problem during an outage. I am seeking reliable solutions, as not having connectivity in a power outage is unsafe and problematic.

Modem attached to UPS will still be active, as long as your provider has  not lost power on their end.

My experience is that modem will be alive for about 30 minutes on a cheaper UPS. Problem in our neighbourhood is power drop outs for about 1 minute a few times a month.

You will get quite a bit more time if you can use an external automotive battery instead of the one built in.

Thanks for the reply!

ISP says they do not have battery backup for their nodes so wifi calling would not be an option in an outage in that case. Cell booster has been considered but neighbours who use one say it’s not great even when power is ok.

With outages lasting days, landline that promised at least 8 hours of service barely came through with 1. This is not acceptable given the cost of the line.

Will cost a pretty penny, but investigate satellite internet services (Xplornet, Starlink) with their system on a UPS.
