I got a call from 866 448 8030, they said I had a offer from koodo as someone who left the service a year ago. When i agreed to the plan they asked for my name, address,  DOB and my FULL SIN number. Before i gave them information i asked them to verify they were koodo and they sent me a “How to transfer sim card” email using the email koodo@e.koodomobile.com to my perrsonal email - was this a phishing call?

I ended up giving my SIN number to them thinking they were Koodo but now I am not sure. Please help.

That info is indeed some of the info that would be needed in order to create a new account.

I won’t go into depth, but the email just includes what’s called a subdomain. It’s a koodomobile.com email with the subdomain “e” (likely short for email).

You should be good but I can flag a rep if you’d like some further peace of mind?

Please flag a rep, I am so scared at the moment

The caller also mentioned they needed 2 pieces of information: drivers license number, SIN number and/or credit card number. I only gave them my SIN number.

The email is indeed from Koodo, those are indeed pieces of info needed for a credit check, and that number is indeed one that Koodo uses:

I would say you are perfectly fine but I did flag a rep for you just to double check.

Hi @Peterrabbit12312

We can confirm that the phone number you got the call from is the Winback team number and as @Allan M mentioned, a credit check requires some pieces of ID, as listed here https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/credit-check-requirements

Can I ask how you confirmed that the phone call was from Koodo and not someone impersonating koodo? I called a koodo customer service rep and they said they didnt have that offer available which was given to me over phone.

@Flo Koodo

You should stop call customers like this.  We customers don't want to get scamed.

If you need to call customers to  offer  "Winback" or any  kind of promotin, then offer them  in the self serve first. And call customer with some kind of code.

Say,  you can add promotion code "W123" for win back on the self serve,  then call customers. So you can tell customers that the call is regarding promotion "W123". Then I can feel better/ safer to talk to a person who called me.

If I received call from whoever, I don't trust them and I won't give them my info.

@Mayumi, @Flo Koodo

Mayumi you are 100% correct! Koodo posts these don’t get scammed type posts on this forum and they continue to practice the same behaviour they warn customers about.

Customers should never, ever be asked for this type of information over the phone. There is no guarantee that a phone number that shows as Koodo is actually Koodo.

Hi @Peterrabbit12312

@Mayumi and @Lou  are correct when it comes about the possibility that a number to be spoofed. In your case, we have verified and the email address is legit.

Thank you for your feedback @Mayumi and @Lou!

The winback team has access to different type of deals, usually better, that are not available with the customer care.

Best way to double check is to ask the winback team to leave a note in your old account before providing any details and then call our customer care to confirm the deal.

Shouldnt this be the standard practice for the Winback process.

This issue isn't about us - it is about the many customers that may not be so aware of spoofing and scammers. Most don't read this forum so they would not know to call customer care.

The only 100% safe method for Koodo customers is to stop these practices and advise clients that you will never ask for personal information over the phone (except if a customer calls Koodo then it would be safe for clients to confirm personal info).
