port forwarding

Not sure if there is a section for Internet Help. With my old provider and old router I was able to either setup port forwarding or setup a DMZ.  With the modem I received from Koodo I was able to setup the DMZ but it will not work when I try to connect from an outside network.  Are you guys blocking ports?  I run a home server that my company connects to for backups.

Are you sure you’ve set up a DMZ host properly this time? You didn’t accidentally forget to ensure the desired device’s IP was used and set static, for example? 

 

I can’t imagine Koodo blocking any more ports than the following that Telus does:

Yeah I am sure. I just changed over to there router as mine for some reason was having a speed issue. I might end up trying one of my other routers to see if that is the issue. Could be a bad router.

Unfortunately troubleshooting support for internet remains limited on the forums. For anythign more indepth like confirming blocked ports, that’d be best done by scheduling a callback through Koodo Assist. Much as I’d like there to be more that can be done here. 

Was the router you were using before working to access, but just slow? If so, it sounds like the problem is indeed with the Koodo provided equipment.

It sounds like the Koodo modem might have some restrictions on incoming connections. Some ISPs block certain ports or prevent true port forwarding on their provided modems for security reasons.

A few things you can try:

  1. Check the modem settings: Make sure your DMZ or port forwarding rules are pointing to the correct internal IP of your server.

  2. Verify external IP: Ensure your modem has a public IP and isn’t behind Carrier-Grade NAT (CGNAT). If it’s behind CGNAT, external connections won’t reach your server.

  3. Contact Koodo support: Ask if they allow port forwarding or DMZ for your plan and whether any ports are blocked.

  4. Consider a personal router: If the ISP modem is restrictive, you can use it in bridge mode and run your own router to manage port forwarding freely.

This usually solves access issues for home servers.
