My son is moving to the states for 7 months. We just got a new phone, can I pause the plan or switch to an American provider?

Did you buy the phone from Koodo? And you had a Tab on that phone?

regarding the question, Yes you could “pause” by paying Koodo a fee eachmonth to keep the number. However it might not be economical. It depends on my question about the Tab above.

If there was a Tab, you might have to look into “seasonal hold” option https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/keeping-your-account-open-when-travelling

that would help with your monthly bill. If you cancel or move out of Koodo, the Tab (and phone credit) payment would be a significant amount.
