Today I received a voicemail from the number +1 (778) 771-5581 (which says it’s coming from Abbotsford BC). The voicemail seems like it was mostly audible cut off. The only thing I could make out was “Text messages We will freeze your mobile phone number within two hours and manual customer service is transferring it Please wait…”

 

Is this a new type of scam that’s floating around? I always ignore these, but thought I’d ask around if anyone else has been getting these messages lately. 
 

Also curious, is a scammer able to manually transfer your phone number? Just curious what the safety measures Koodo has in preventing this from happening. 

Sounds like a scam  to me. I haen’t seen that one in particular, but they’re nothing if not imaginative.

 

There is porting out protection that can be enabled which requires calling in with a rep to enable  a port out. Otherwise they still need to be able to access your number to accept the porting authorization text. There was a scam going on for a while where they had some success with a sim card transfer that then allowed them to receive that text to do a port out.
