Hello and thanks in advance for any help or advice!
I rec’d the following text earlier today:
“TELUS message: We’ve received a request to transfer 250-893-9XXX to Public Mobile. We’ve sent a text msg request to the mobility user to approve the request. This message is for your information only. Please contact us at 1-866-558-2273 if you need any additional help.”
The 250 number is not my phone number. I am in a different area code with a different number. I’m not sure why I received this message. And if it is phishing, are they hoping that I call the number to give them my information? But a google search shows that to be a legitimate Telus number. Or are they hoping I text back to confirm my phone number works?
I would normally just report as Spam and Block, but the person who had my phone number before me does live in the 250 area code, so it is just setting off some spidey senses, if that makes any sense!
I’ve also heard of sim swapping, but don’t entirely understand it to be honest--I think if this was *my* number it would be a sim swap, but not sure how this would work if not my number?
Very confused--all advice welcome
Thanks!
