ID Verification Scam or Safe

Last night after chat /texting with a koodo rep I was told a rep would be calling me. while talking with the koodo rep on the phone I was told they would send a text to my phone to authenticate my ID...that i would need to take a selfie and send a photo of my Identification.  the text didn’t come so they said they would send an email. The email had a warning that the message seemed dangerous and may be a phishing scam and to avoid clicking links etc. However the rep wanted me to open the link to send the requested info.  I want to know if this is safe to use.  I have been a customer of Koodo for more than 8 yrs and have not had to do this before. The email came from - idverify@authenticide.co - It says Telus  /Koodo sues AuthenticID to facilitate …..identity verification.  The link included http://amalgameast.reauthid.com                                                 Is this safe and authentically Koodo?

Hi @MrMiley

We understand that such a verification method may sound like a scam.

We have looked into it and we can confirm based on the notes that there was an interaction with a rep yesterday and that this is a verification process used by Koodo to minimize fraud.

Here are some of the know scams and fraud list

Hey,

That email from idverify@authenticide.co and the link with reauthid.com is legit for Koodo/Telus ID verification. They use a third-party service called AuthenticID to handle ID checks, which involves selfies and ID pics. The phishing warning on your email might be because the link is unusual or not on Koodo’s official domain, but it’s a known process for verifying customers online nowadays. So it should be safe if you got it after talking with Koodo and no weird requests like passwords or payments.

Did you schedule a call back from Koodo using their digital assistant? Or was it a call from a marketing team?

Hi Dinh I started with the digital assistand - then transferred to text/chat with Koodo rep. The last  chat message I got from the koodo rep was that I koodo rep would call me...if I wasn’t available I could schedule a call back. I did answer the phone when they called moments later. So not marketing team.     I told the rep I had concerns and asked if she could call back later today so I could make sure it was a legit first.

The community is one of them! But now that Flo confirmed the e-mail you got is not phising, you’re good to go. Although, it would be good for the customer representative to tell the customers from what provider the verification ID is coming from.
