activation confirmation clarity

i purchased a new phone online through koodo and recieved an activation confirmation email - but have not actually recieved the device -- this is probably a really stupid question but does that mean that someone else has already activated my phone?
i had planned on transferring my old number and there is a new number associated with the phone but it isnt my number,  i have the withdrawl notice from my bank etc - -  
can someone clarify?

After you order the phone, they will have to ship it to you. Depending on the situation, it can take 1 or 5 business till you see the shipping email notification.

Are you ordering an eSIM or physical SIM with the phone by the way?

the confirmation package has an esim with a different number that the one i planned on transferring

That is just a temporary number to setup the account. This is necessary to get the line active after which you can port your number over to koodo. If yours was there already, you would not have service as it would have been switched over, so the purpose is to avoid complications as if it didnt work correctly you would be in a bit of a pickle.

You can follow the steps in the link to port over your number. Once successfully done, the temp number will be replaced with your phone number.

Note it can take up to 90 mins for the port to fully go through. Make sure you have the esim information before you do this.
