I want to reactivate my old phone and turn off current one. My old phone was on Koodo before and it has a physical sim card. How can i do this. Can’t reach an actual rep on phone, have tried and just get run around from their auto bot.

Hi there,

Does your new phone have a koodo physical sim card in it as well? As if that is the case you can simply remove the sim card from the new phone and insert it into the old one.

Your phone number and plan are tied to the sim, not the device. So if you swap the sims you should be good to go. 🙂

I popped out the sim tray and there is no card in it on newer phone. My old phone has a sim card and a mini sd card too.

Ah I see. In that case it sounds like your new phone has an eSim card, not a physical sim card.

Do you know if your old phone is eSim compatable? If you're not sure, do you know the model and make of the old device?

I’m an old retired guy, not tech savvy. My old phone is a Motorola 5g play.

Unfortunately, that device is not compatible with eSIM.

The easiest way to switch from a physical SIM to an eSIM is to borrow an eligible iPhone (iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, or later) from someone to set up the eSIM and transfer it over to your new device. Otherwise, you may need to purchase an eSIM voucher at your nearest Koodo store to set it up. https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/esim-on-apple

No problem at all.

So you can switch back to your old Motorola however you will likely need a new physical sim card. Even though you have one in the old phone, they cannot be reused once they're switched to a different one.

An eSIM is a built in sim card in your new phone. If it doesnt have a physical sim card but has service, then it most likely has an eSIM.

You will need to pickup a physical sim card from a koodo kiosk or telus store. From there, you can either have the store rep do a sim card change or you can do it yourself in self serve. Once you do, your number and plan switch to the new sim card, and you can plug it back into your old device.

Let me know if that makes sense if not I can re-explain the stuff that doesnt make sense 🙂

Yes, it should work with the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE, as it is compatible with eSIM. You can use Self-Serve to complete the swap. You’ll need the following:

  • Your smartphone EID, which can be found within the settings app
  • An active Koodo account (on which you’ll be swapping the SIM)

Thanks for the replies. I will look into this and get a new sim card when i’m out. I’ll post any updates. Thanks again.
