I was just informed of Koodo’s Call Control service to screen away robodialers by asking the caller to press a number that is randomly selected by the Call Control service: https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/call-control
It sounds like a great idea. My only hesitation is that I don’t necessarily know who might legitimately robodial me. I can’t white-list them ahead of time. Some callers are important (hospitals, professional organizations). Unless the screening process sends them to voicemail, I won’t become aware of them.
Can the Call Control service be further developed to record the caller as voicemail? This feature can be user-enabled.
There is the real risk that the caller’s automated self identification won’t be captured in a normal voicemail recording because they usually introduce themselves at the beginning of the robodialer’s announcement. But this can be solved by having the recording commence from the beginning of the call, even before the Call Control service asks the caller to press a randomly selected number.
