Subject: Complaint and Refund Request – Overcharged invoice

To: Koodo Customer Service

Account Number: ********

Dear Koodo,
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with your service and request immediate action on the following issues.

Since November last year, my wife and I have been in Hong Kong caring for my elderly mother and not sure when we can go back to Canada. We visit Hong Kong regularly and have always used local prepaid SIM cards upon arrival—HK$75 (approx. C$13) for 365 days of unlimited data and 2,000 local minutes—making Canada’s roaming services uncompetitive and prohibitively expensive.

While abroad, we continue paying the C$42.56 monthly fee for our Canadian SIM cards, despite not using them. In February 2026, I was billed C$82.88—an unexplained increase. I contacted Koodo via email and the digital assistant, but neither provided a clear resolution, merely shifting responsibility. I am unwilling to incur long-distance charges to speak with an agent, having already paid months for unused service.

Correction:
Earlier yesterday (Hong Kong time), while on public transport, I mistakenly submitted a form believing it was to request a refund for the overcharge. I now realize it may have been used to sign up for a roaming plan.

Requests:

1. Immediately cancel any roaming plan I may have just enrolled in via that form.
2. Refund the overcharged amount as soon as possible.

I hope you will address these issues promptly.

Thank you.

Hi there,

I am not sure about filling out a form to Roaming as this is just an add-on that you can add in self serve. It can also be removed there, so if you want the roaming add-ons removed you can do this by following the steps in the link and removing the Easy Roam options. Note that if you do and you use the service you will be charged pay-per use rates which are much more expensive.

Regarding “not using the service but are still charged” When you sign up for a postpaid plan, you’re billed month to month for the service whether you use it or not. You agree to this when you sign up. Unless you change things, this will remain the same.

Have you placed yourself on a seasonal hold if you don’t intend to use the service? This will reduce the cost of each line to $15 per month for 6 months if you own the devices. Also, please remove your account number from your post. This is a public platform for people to see. If a rep is required, they don’t require your account number to look into the matter.

When you mentioned about "unexplained increases" in the bill, have you got a chance to download the PDF bill in selfserve to check the breakdown detail? page 3 and 4 of the PDF bill should have the details.

If you want to keep your number while abroad and you need to continue making or receiving calls from Canada, I would suggest you to download an app such as Fongo and port over your number until your return to Canada.

With regards to the roaming charges, you will send a message to a rep on Facebook Messenger or Twitter. There are no guarantees that the rep will waive them, but it is worth a try. https://m.me/Koodo

I mistakenly submitted a form believing it was to request a refund for the overcharge. I now realize it may have been used to sign up for a roaming plan.

You are only charged for roaming when you use your phone with your koodo sim plan.

If you made a mistake, you need to ensure you do not use any data, talk, or send any texts with your koodo number to prevent any roaming charges.

To be safe, I highly suggest taking your koodo sim out of your phone.

If that is the case? Have you had a chance to look into the PDF bill in self-service to see what was the reason for the higher usual fee
