So we went to the US for a week and bought an eSIM to avoid roaming charges, we had previously used the service in Europe and it worked great. Unfortunately it appears we didn’t have it quite set up correctly as we still ended up triggering roaming charges for several days. First of all I find the price is exorbitant at $14/day. Second of all it would be nice to have a warning so that we were aware that this was happening. Yes a warning happens when you first connect to US networks, but then after activating the eSIMs we thought we were covered. The fact that we end up getting charged for multiple days really took advantage of the situation we were in and quite exploitative. The discount I received barely covered the 45 minutes on the phone. Overall I like Koodoo’s service but this deeply disappoints me. Very dissatisfied. It would be nice to have some way of knowing that roaming charges are being incurred other than one message at the beginning and a big bill at the end.
+4Koodo roaming policy has been established for years and is similar to other Canadian carriers. It is expensive but well informed though.
Regarding the first issue: there are several other options of roaming, including CAN-US roaming plans and roaming package bundles. You don’t have to always use $14/day if you have to use roaming for multiple days.

The text message from Koodo would have warned you in advance. You may have also received an email about the roaming fees.
To avoid any unnecessary roaming charges, make sure to remove your SIM card entirely from your phone before heading abroad.
From my experience with e-sims you have to toggle off your main line and toggle on the e-sim line you installed. For example if I’m flying I’ll do it at the airport just before I board or while waiting for the plane to take off. That way when I land and take it off of airplane mode when I land it’s already done. You just have to remember to toggle back your main line when you get back from your trip.
