Hello! This is urgent and I need it resolved ASAP.

You guys need to drop the outstanding balance due to the fact that one of your salesmen did a horrible job on explain to me how Koodo works.

It was a friend of mine who worked with of for you guys. He gave me run down but he never told me that it would be auto top up.

I am with chatr and they allow me to pay whenever I want. I asked if it was the same for Koodo and I was told yes. So now because I didn’t pay I now have an outstanding balance. Due to your salesmen doing a bad job. Please resolve this because I should not have a outstanding balance.

Please send me a business number I can contact you at!

Hi there @Jaa_qq  We can definitely look into that. We could not find an account based on the log in method you used here. Did you get a chance to create a Self Serve account ? If so, please use the Self Serve method when you log in to the community and leave a message on this post, after.

We will include an image with the log in choice here:

Sorry, but I'm not Koodo staff and can't access accounts or waive balances.  Prepaid auto top-up runs on its own schedule via Self Serve (no manual pay option like Chatr). Sales reps can't override that policy.

Hello! So when I first got the Koodo SIM card, all that was required of me was to send my friend my sin number, and a some more private information. I never created an Koodo account using self serv.
it was a very quick process.
I came and picked up the sim after sending my info and it was working.
but I was told that I can top up whenever I want. Which was not the case.
I was told it was a monthly payment plan but that I don’t have to pay it on time and could top up whenever without me being charged.
I then stopped using Koodo and I’m assuming my account got automatically canceled. Keep in mind that I did this with a friend who had the Koodo SIM cards.

That sounds like you were under the impression it was to be a prepaid account, however, your friend actually setup a postpaid account. Prepaid would not require a SIN number to activate and works as you have described.

You actually signed up for month-to-month postpaid account. This is a month-to-month bill that you have to pay and to cancel you either switch companies and take the number or cancel via a phone call.

I am not sure what the rep can do regarding that, as it seems the charges are correct. Just that your friend was mistaken and setup the wrong service / incorrectly informed you.

You would have also signed for the service and received a service agreement outlining the month-to-month commitments. You should prob have a chat with your friend about covering the bill if that is the case.

It appears that that notice is at least a year and a half old and is quite clear. Maybe you should have taken care of it right then instead of 18 months later. I guess it’s gone to a Collection Agency now and that is why you are concerned. Your friend did you no favours it seems.

That’s a good point @Fred C  I didn’t even see the date. You would have to deal with the collection's agency from here. It would be out of Koodo’s hands. I would maybe have a chat with your friend 😅

Thank You you Oliver and Fred for you inputs! It seems that you guys are correct. So I have no choice but to pay?
I also did contact them a while ago when I first dealt with this issue and the person I spoke to through email understood from my perspective and I thought that they had dealt with it because I got no call or email regarding the issue. Until today I received a call from what I’m assuming was the collection agency as was mentioned before. Which brought back my concern. I appreciate you guys again for your time.
if there is anything you recommend for me to do please let me know.
my friend definitely won’t be helping me because it has been over a year and I thought it was resolved. I’d rather not bring this up to him.

I just wish it was explained better so that I could have been aware of this. I was only in high school at the time so u wasn’t worried about it. But that’s life🤣

It would have been sent to a collection agency and you should have received a letter from them with the outstanding balance. In that case, Koodo no longer handles the debt. I would also suggest you to obtain a copy of your credit report from Equifax and TransUnion.

Unfortunately, you will prob have to pay.

Though you were miss-informed, as I mentioned you would have received documentation outlining the commitments from Koodo and would have been accessible on your Koodo self-serve at any time. You would have also received bills once you stopped paying informing you there is a balance owing.

Your friend did you wrong, I would bring it up to them for sure, but from here you will have to deal with the collection agency. I would give them a call back and ask for confirmation it has all been cleared up, a paper trail always helps rather than assumptions.

Were you 18 when you signed up? You have to be the age of majority to sign up with Koodo.
